Steam Deck's February Launch Not Threatened

Valve announced that work on Steam Deck is proceeding on schedule and shipping will begin in late February. In addition, the program for testing game compatibility with the device is developing well.

WHAT'S UP WITH STEAM DECK:
  1. Everything is on schedule - shipments should begin in late February;
  2. The game compatibility testing program is progressing;
  3. Valve has already sent hundreds of copies of Steam Deck to developers, and more are on the way;

Valve informed on the official blog about the progress of work on Steam Deck. First of all, we were assured that everything is running smoothly. The developers expect that the devices will be shipped as planned, that is, at the end of February.

This declaration should reassure those waiting for Steam Deck, because initially the debut of the device was planned for the end of 2021, before its release was delayed by two months.

In parallel, work is underway on the game compatibility program. Thanks to this, players will receive information on which titles have been tested on this device (we wrote more about this initiative a few months ago). Games are tested on four main aspects - data entry, reliability, image display and system support.

The compatibility program's official website, we learn that, for example, Ghostrunner is fully compatible with Steam Deck standards, Team Fortress 2 works on the device but you have to fiddle with the settings a bit for optimal experience, while Day of Defeat has yet to be tested. Of course, this information is up to date at this point. We expect that by the device's debut day, all Valve games (except Half-Life: Alyx) will be adapted to the needs of the device.

So far, several hundred copies of Steam Deck have been sent to developers to enable them to redesign their games, and Valve will be sending more any day now.

As a final reminder, all copies of Steam Deck allocated for February have already been purchased. If you make your reservation today, you will have to wait for the delivery until the second half of 2022.
